Maid of Orleans
|“A unique theater event that demands to be seen…one coup de théâtre after another.”
“Carefully crafted…the technical strokes are deft and memorable.”
Jeanne D’Arc is one of the most exceptional creatures in the fabric of human history. No other figure—not Jesus, not Napoleon, not Caesar—has stood for so many different things to so many different people at so many different times. Warrior, shepherdess, Saint, whore, psychotic, visionary, patriot, terrorist, heretic, instrument of God: la pucelle has been seen as all of these and more.
The Maid of Orléans begins in the limbo of the 25 years between Joan’s burning at the stake and her rehabilitation by The Church. Joan’s voices—St. Michael, St. Catherine, and St. Margaret—finally return to her to re-examine her life and role in human history. Through story, movement, song, projection, and gigantic performer-powered set pieces, we experience a world as the Saints—or Saints-in-waiting—might tell it.
